Michelle Obama Helped a Chicago Couple Say Their “I Do’s” at Their Wedding This Weekend

The former first lady took on a new role this weekend when she helped a Chicago couple exchange their vows. On Saturday, September 22nd, Michelle Obama attended the wedding of Stephanie Rivkin and Joel Sircus, where she led the two in exchanging their vows on their big day at Theater on the Lake. TMZ obtained footage of the enviable ceremony vows, which look absolutely eye-watering.

The bride, a sales account manager at Google, is the daughter of Chicago’s Deputy Mayor Robert S. Rivkin and the president of Penny Pritzker’s charity the Pritzker Traubert Foundation, according to the New York Times wedding announcement. Michelle’s relation to the couple was through Pritzker, who served as a commerce secretary during the Obamas’ tenure. The groom is an investment associate at Chicago’s DNS Capital, the family company for Michael Pucker and Gigi Pritzker.

Michelle is no stranger to the Windy City. She and her husband Barack (you may have heard of him) lived in Chicago for years before his presidency. Michelle was born in the city in 1964, and Barack served as the United States senator of Illinois from 1997 to 2008.

But her vow exchange role isn’t her only project at the moment. She is currently preparing to go on tour for her upcoming memoir, Becoming.

Michelle posted a video to Instagram earlier this month discussing her upcoming tour.

“Hey everybody, it’s Michelle Obama…It’s a big day for me because I am finished with my book…I can’t wait to share it with the world,” she said in the clip. “Over this time that I’ve been out of the White House, I’ve had time to think and reflect for the first time in a long time and I spent some time really thinking about the people and the stories and the experiences that have shaped me and helped me become the person I am today, and I am proud of what I’ve created. I’m proud because it’s candid, it’s totally and utterly me. So I’m also a little frightened because it’s candid and honest and open, but I can’t wait to share it with the world.”
